NSPS PhD Thesis Award 2023: Call for Applications

On the quest to promote the study and research of physical science in Nigeria, the Nigerian Society of Physical Sciences (NSPS) seeks to award five prizes to recognize outstanding scholarly achievements in physical sciences. These prizes are:
  1. NSPS Ph.D. Thesis Prize in Chemistry
  2. NSPS Ph.D. Thesis Prize in Computer Science
  3. NSPS Ph.D. Thesis Prize in Earth Sciences
  4. NSPS Ph.D. Thesis Prize in Mathematics and Statistics
  5. NSPS Ph.D. Thesis Prize in Physics and Astronomy

All the prizes would be based on applications and participation in a 3 minutes thesis competition.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. The candidate must not be a member of the Executives or Governing Council of NSPS.
  2. The Ph.D. degree must have been awarded by a Nigerian University, and most of the work must have been carried out in Nigeria
  3. The award of the degree by the Senate must take place between January 2022 and December 2023.
  4. The research work must fall within the scope of the physical sciences.
  5. The publication(s) resulting from the PhD work must have been published in a journal indexed in Scopus/Web of Science

Value of the Award

  1. Cash prize
  2. Award certificate
  3. Life membership in the Society (LNSPS)
  4. Article publication charge waiver for an article per year in any journal published by NSPS for a period of 3 years
  5. Editorial position in Journal of the Nigerian Society of Physical Sciences

Procedure

  1. Start registration now at https://nsps.org.ng/events/prize/login.php and upload the following documents:
    • Academic profile
    • CV
    • List of publications resulting from the Ph.D. research work
    • Cover page of the Ph.D. Thesis
    • Ph.D. certificate or statement of result
  2. The candidate would be screened for the set criteria, and successful candidates would be notified to upload a 3 minutes thesis video
  3. Members of the NSPS would vote their choice through e-voting
  4. The winners would be announced and awarded

  3. Three-Minute Thesis Competition: December 10, 2023
  4. Voting: December 24
  5. Announcement of winners: January 3, 2024
