The Nigerian Society of Physical Sciences is pleased to celebrate Dr. Collins O. Edet as our Spotlight Member of the Week.

Dr. Edet’s academic journey is a remarkable story of focus, perseverance, and commitment to scientific excellence. From earning a Second Class Upper degree in Physics from the Cross River University of Technology in 2017 to pursuing a PhD in Theoretical Physics at Universiti Malaysia Perlis, Malaysia, his path reflects a deep passion for discovery and a steady dedication to advancing knowledge in the physical sciences.

His research lies within the rapidly developing field of quantum science and technology, with particular emphasis on the design and understanding of efficient quantum thermal machines. Drawing on concepts from quantum thermodynamics, open quantum systems, quantum information theory, quantum control, statistical physics, and nonequilibrium dynamics, Dr. Edet investigates how quantum devices and dynamical processes behave under conditions far from equilibrium. His work contributes to broader efforts aimed at understanding the principles that may guide future quantum technologies.

Dr. Edet has authored impactful research articles in reputable international journals, including Physical Review Research and Annalen der Physik. His growing scholarly profile has also earned him several notable recognitions, including his selection as an Inaugural Sigma Xi Lindau Fellow, participation in the 73rd Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting, and various international research and travel fellowships. Beyond research, he has contributed meaningfully to the scientific community through teaching, mentoring, peer review, conference presentations, and service as a Guest Editor for a Special Issue of the Journal of the Nigerian Society of Physical Sciences.

Two quotes that continue to inspire him speak strongly to his values of patience, purpose, resilience, and passion:

“Those who are blessed with the soaring swiftness of the eagle and have flown before, let them go. I will travel slowly, and I, too, will arrive.”
— Ayi Kwei Armah

“Do something you love. Then, even if you fail, you will not regret trying, because you would have enjoyed the journey.”

Outside his academic and research engagements, Dr. Edet enjoys watching football, following developments in the sport, travelling, and exploring places of historical, cultural, and monumental significance.

The Nigerian Society of Physical Sciences proudly commends Dr. Collins O. Edet for his inspiring journey from a young physics graduate to an internationally recognized researcher. His story is a testament to what can be achieved through discipline, curiosity, patience, and a genuine love for science.
